Have you wanted to learn how to brew or distill your “family recipe”? An informational session with the Brewing & Distilling Center is the place to start. Join us on Thursday, January 11th at 4:00pm.
The session will give an overview of the Professional Brewing/Distilling Technology (PBDT) Certificate Program. If you attend the certification program after this session, you will learn about the following:
In this Safety and Basic Use class, learn to use a laser cutter to cut, etch, and engrave designs in a variety of materials. Work with acrylic, wood, paper, cardboard, leather, etc. Using graphic software like Inkscape, cut intricate designs and engrave highly detailed images at the touch of a button. The sky is the limit with this simple and versatile tool!
Once you successfully pass this class, you can use this equipment for creating your own projects at the CBI Maker Space as a member during open volunteer hours for only $5/day, $20/month, or $10/month if you are a student. Closed toe shoes are required to safely use this equipment.

In this 3-day class, you will learn about CNC machining items using CAD basics and CAM essentials. Using the Fusion 360 software program, you will create a manufacturable design from sketch to solid model (CAD) as well as CNC mill programming with Fusion 360 from setup to milling.
Also included in the instruction is machine setup and fixturing fundamentals, common tool setup practices and applications and trade tips, tricks and resources for future prototyping projects.
The project that each student will make is a minimalist metal wallet, and all materials will be supplied.

It’s time for our Spring Open House for Roane State Community College Cumberland Campus! This includes the academic building, the Cumberland Business Incubator, and the Maker Space. Check out both buildings and take the opportunity to meet our staff, volunteers, and tenants; get information about college courses – be sure to ask about Tennessee Reconnect, Dual Enrollment, and Middle College; Workforce Development, Maker Space, or other classes that are offered; learn what we do to help small businesses at the CBI – including the WORC grant that can help pay for classes and trainings; and enjoy refreshments – at each building! (The CBI will be having delicious cookies provided by the sweet ladies from the Cumberland County School Nutrition Program!)
In this Safety & Basic Use class, you’ll learn all the basics of using our heat press to add your own graphic designs to shirts, blankets, flags, bags and more!
Learn to use the computer-controlled (CNC) vinyl cutter and heat press. Import vector (outline) designs from graphic software such as Inkscape into Sure Cuts A Lot, the software used to control the vinyl cutter. Next, use the CNC vinyl cutter to cut an adhesive vinyl sheet into professional looking signage or heat transfer vinyl for heat pressed shirts.
