Social Media – A Disaster Survival Tool

March 30, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm CDT

Free

When Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast in 2005 Facebook was one year old. There was no Twitter or smart phones. Instant news updates did not exist. By the time Hurricane Sandy slammed into the eastern coast of the United States in 2013, Social Media had become an important part of disaster response. During recent disasters, such as the recent Gatlinburg Wildfires, the public has turned to Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media outlets for locating loved ones, obtaining news updates, identifying shelter locations, checking on school and business closures, and identifying ways to provide volunteer assistance to the affected areas.

This program will provide you with the means to incorporate the use of Social Media in your personal, family and business preparedness plans. Social Media has grown over the years into an important Disaster Survival Tool.
